Buoy MCP is free now.

With a free account, your AI can read the screen, tap, run steps and read logs. Pro adds the tools that see inside your app.

the AI bill of Argent

Buoy in our test of 14 app jobs, with its free and Pro tools. How we got these.

What you get for free

Your AI uses the app like a person does.

Read it, tap it, test it and check the logs. All with a free account.

Read the screen

describe_screen, native_inspect

Tap, swipe, type and pinch

tap_element, native_tap, native_swipe, native_type, native_pinch

Run steps in a row

run_flow

Take pictures and videos

screenshot_component, screen_recording

Work the device

device_control, reload_app, navigate, get_routes

Read logs

get_console

See the list of web calls

get_network_requests

Get a quick summary

get_triage

Two of these have a Pro part. On free, get_network_requests shows the list of web calls, but not what was sent or what came back. get_triage shows the names of saved keys, but not their values.

What it saves

A free tool can still cost you.

You pay while your AI waits. You also pay for every token it uses. We gave the same AI 14 jobs in our test app, 3 times each.

Next to no tools

Next to Argent

$905

a month · about 10 hours back

For a team of 6 devs, where each dev's AI does 20 app jobs a day.

Fair notes: this was one test, on our own app. We tuned Buoy on these jobs. The race used Buoy's free tools and its Pro tools, and we have not timed Free alone. The team numbers are a guess, built on a $150,000 salary.

What Pro adds

See inside your app.

Seeing inside the app is a big part of why Buoy was fast. The AI reads the app's data and web calls right away, so it guesses less.

State in Zustand, Redux, Jotai and React Query

Saved values, and edits to them

Web call bodies, mocks and slow or broken networks

The clock, location, permissions and app lifecycle

Time Machine and scenarios

Render checks, benchmarks and JS thread profiling

Sentry, images, assets, three.js, camera and the sim farm

If your AI calls a Pro tool on a free account, the tool says it needs Pro. Nothing is sent to your app.

How to start

One line. Then ask your AI.

Run this in your app's folder. It sets up Buoy MCP for your editor.

$ npx -y @buoy-gg/mcp@latest init
  1. 1

    Run the line

It sets up Buoy MCP in your editor.

  2. 2

    Sign in free

Use a free Buoy account, then restart your editor.

  3. 3

    Ask your AI

Have it run list_devices. Then give it a job.

The MCP docs have each step.

Questions

Good to know.

Do I need an account?

Yes, but a free one works. Buoy MCP checks the account your app is signed in with.

Can my AI turn on Pro tools without Pro?

No. Your app tells Buoy which plan it is on, and no tool or setting can change that. A Pro tool on a free account stops before it reaches your app.

Is it a different install for Pro?

No. It is the same Buoy MCP. When your account has Pro, the Pro tools start to work.
