Buoy is now in Capacitor and Ionic
Updated October 9, 2026
Buoy is in Beta for React apps with Capacitor. It works with Ionic React too. We tested Capacitor 7 on iOS and Android.
Add Buoy to your app
Install the tools you want. Then add buoy() to Vite:
import { defineConfig } from 'vite';
import react from '@vitejs/plugin-react';
import { buoy } from '@buoy-gg/core/vite';
export default defineConfig({
plugins: [react(), buoy()],
});Mount Buoy inside IonApp, outside IonRouterOutlet:
import { BuoyDevTools } from '@buoy-gg/core/web/auto';
<IonApp>
<IonReactRouter>
<IonRouterOutlet>{/* your routes */}</IonRouterOutlet>
</IonReactRouter>
<BuoyDevTools signIn />
</IonApp>The plugin finds installed tools for you. Install one later, and it shows up after the dev server restarts.
Use tools on the phone
Buoy has phone tools and web tools for your app:
- Storage lets you edit Preferences and web stores.
- Clock changes JavaScript dates and timers.
- Lifecycle sends pause, resume and link events to your app.
- Location sets test answers for phone and web location.
- Permissions lets you test access checks.
- Push saves events sent to your app.
- Events lists phone plugin calls. It hides secret values.
- Network shows web calls and details.
- Console shows JavaScript logs.
Plugin tools see calls that reach phone code. They do not see plugins made of JavaScript alone.
Connect Desktop and MCP
Add @capacitor/app and @capacitor/device. They read your app's saved device ID. Desktop and MCP use that ID. MCP needs its own sign-in. Data and actions need Pro.
Buoy runs in debug builds by default. To show it in a release build, pass enabled. Release sync needs Pro and enableInRelease: true. Plain HTTP to another device also needs allowInsecureNetwork: true.
Beta notes
Only Capacitor 7 has been tested. Capacitor 6 and 8 need more tests. Phone tests over Wi-Fi need more tests too.
Angular shipped in this release too. Read the Angular post. Ionic Angular users should follow the Angular guide.
For an AI coding agent, start at Start here in the Capacitor guide, or open buoy.gg/install-capacitor.md.
Try Buoy in your Capacitor app.
Read the Capacitor guide, then install:
npm install @buoy-gg/core react-native-web @buoy-gg/network @buoy-gg/storage @buoy-gg/external-sync
